  • The Eclipse Between The People Of Faith And The People Of Negligence: A book describing the difference between people of Iman and the people whose concern is only for this world.
‘Aa’ishah said: “The sun was eclipsed at the time of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), so the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) led the people in prayer. He stood for a long time, then he made rukoo’ for a long time, then he stood again for a long time but shorter than the first time, then he made rukoo’ for a long time but shorter than the first. Then he prostrated for a long time, then in the second rak’ah he did the same as he had done in the first. Then he finished, and the eclipse was over. He addressed the people, first praising Allaah, then he said: ‘The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allaah. They do not become eclipsed for the death or life of anyone. If you see that, then pray to Allaah, say Takbeer (“Allahu akbar”), pray and give in charity.’ Then he said, ‘O Ummah of Muhammad, by Allâh there is no one more jealous than Allaah when His slave, male or female, commits zina (adultery or fornication). O Ummah of Muhammad, if you knew what I know you would laugh little and weep much.’” (Saheeh al-Bukhaari, 986)

    The Blind Following Of Madhhabs

  • Anyone who comes across the discussions of the followers of the madhhabs will not doubt that the misfortune of blind-following of madhhabs is one of the causes of decline of the Muslims and their backwardness. It has transformed their minds so that they do not think except with the minds of other people. The Imaams and their first students – rahimahumullaah – did not blindly stick to their own opinions like these followers who have forgotten a large portion of the advice given by the Imaams. Thus Shaytaan has caused enmity and hatred between them so that they relit a fire which Allaah had extinguished and in reality, they turned away from the sayings of the Mujtahid Imaams and clung onto the hypothetical answers given by late-comers who did not leave anything of the madhhabs except their names. Many scholars throughout the ages have understood this fact and so they have written about it and done well. But the work of ‘Allaamah al-Ma’soomee – rahimahullaah – Hadiyyat us-Sultaan ilaa Muslimee Bilaad il-Yaabaan is, despite its small size, perhaps one of the most beneficial books written on the subject. This is this due to its excellent style and strength of proofs, to the point that it is a fatal blow to the misfortune of blind-following of madhhabs. This is a concise version of this book, edited by Shaykh Saleem al- Hilaalee. This book was translated into English by Daawood ibn Ronald Burbank. We ask Allaah, the Blessed and Most High, to make this work beneficial to the Muslims. Those who do not give precedence to anything before Allaah and His Messenger, so that they may unsheathe the sword of knowledge, which is: ‘Allaah says… His Messenger says…’ And ride upon the back of truth, which is acquiring knowledge along with its proof. Thus expelling from Islaam the alterations of those going beyond bounds, the false claims of the deceptive, the misinterpretations of the ignorant and the bigotry of the blind- followers: those who pick and choose from the Qur’aan and divide up their Deen into sects and become separate groups.

Deeds Of The Heart – Reliance Upon Allaah (swt)

  • The issue of the deeds of the hearts is an immensely important subject, and this is why many scholars have written countless books on the subject – in order to remind and encourage people to perform them. These deeds require sacrifice and exertion because one’s salvation is dependant on them; moreover, the deeds of the limbs will not be performed if these of the heart are absent. Reliance upon Allaah is something that has an immense impact on a person; it is an implication of belief and is one of the finest deeds and acts of worship by which the slave can draw close to Allaah, the All-Merciful; It is one of the highest ranks of Islaamic monotheism because nothing can occur except through one relying and depending upon Allaah for it to do so.

  • Lying is an evil characteristic, which all religions and systems of ethics warn against and which man’s innate common sense (fitrah) agrees that it is wrong. Those who possess chivalry and sound reason also say this. Truthfulness is one of the pillars on which the moral survival of the world depends. It is the foundation of praiseworthy characteristics, the cornerstone of Prophethood, the result of taqwaa. Were it not for truthfulness, the rulings of all divinely-revealed laws would collapse. Acquiring the characteristic of lying is akin to shedding one’s humanity, because speaking is an exclusively human trait.

  • Recently, a debate between our religiously committed brothers has erupted on the Internet regarding the permissibility of participating in democratic elections in the West. An article entitled “To Vote or Not to Vote” and another entitled “Why Vote, and Who to Vote For?” in particular have raised several points, which we feel are necessary to address as well as certain others related to Democracy and participation in the electoral process in general. In this short address, we will attempt to offer some clarification on the issue with the hope of refuting some claims and correcting some errors of the authors of these articles as well as addressing some of the more common mistakes related to this topic overall. In approaching the topic of Muslims participating in democratic elections, certain introductory points must be made. It is our intention to be very brief in these points as to avoid dwelling upon them and we only mention them for later reference in discussing the core issue of dispute regarding the permissibility of participating in the democratic elections.

  • Allah has explained in His Book, and in the Sunnah of His Prophet that He has awliyaa’ among the people and that shaitaan also has his awliyaa’, and He has differentiated between these two types of awliyaa’. Allah said: “Indeed, there is no fear upon the awliyaa’ of Allah, nor shall they grieve, those who believe and are ever pious in their actions. To them are glad tidings in this life and in the hereafter. There is no changing the words of Allah. That, then, is the great success.” (Qur’an Yunus 10:62-64) – “Allah is the protector (ally) of those who believe, He takes them out of the darknesses into the light. As for the disbelievers, their allies are the taaghoot who take them out of the light and into the darknesses. Those are the people of the fire, and they will be in it forever.” (Qur’an al-Baqarah 2:257)

Al Fawaid – A Collection Of Wise Sayings

    October 2, 2008

    Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyah | 373 pages | PDF | 13 MB

This book, Al-Fawaid: A Collection of Wise Sayings is one of the well-known compilations of Imam Shams Ad-Dm Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah, who is well known by the name Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy upon him). This blessed book is not like others that simply contain sections, chapters and themes, but it consists of the elevated thoughts that Allah, Exalted be He, bestows upon some of His servants as He wills. So whenever any of these scattered pearls of wisdom occurred to the Imam, he would immediately record them. I am sure that he did not sit down and write this book in one or two weeks, but surely it was developed over a long period of time. Whenever something came to his mind, he would record it, and whenever he learnt a lesson or anything crucial in his life, he would illuminate the lines of his page with the ink of his pen.

The Decisive Word On The Factors Of Victory And Establishment

  • Indeed the best speech is the speech of Allaah and the best guidance is that of Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wassallam) and the worst of affairs are the newly invented matters in the religion, for every newly invented matter is an innovation and every innovation is misguidance and all misguidance is in the hellfire. The Islamic Ummah has been tested for over half a century with successive defeats and most of the Ummah is heedless as to the reasons for such defeats and afflictions. Allaah says: “Say, “it is from yourselves (i.e. due to your sin).” {Aali-Imraan: 165} – And Allaah says: “And whatever strikes you of disaster – it is for what your hands have earned; but He pardons much.” {ash-Shooraa: 30}. If our Ummah, at an individual level and at a societal level, the rulers and the ruled, reflected on the Book of Allaah and acted by its rulings and divine laws it would have achieved the causes for victory over their enemies. This is so they know that the Sunnah of Allaah in His creation does not change or become substituted by the passing of the times and by the repetition of the times. This an Excellent work on what exactly will bring victory to the Muslim Ummah
