Death is not the absolute end. It is just the discontinuation of unity between the body and soul. It is a change from one state to another and a transition from this present life to that of the hereafter. “Allaah takes souls at the time of their death and [the souls] of those that do not die during their sleep. He retains those souls for which He has ordained death, whereas He releases the rest for an appointed term” [Qur'an 39:42] – ‘Every soul shall have a taste of death: And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception’ {Qur’an 3:185}

Preface:

We all believe that our life has an end, and nothing is eternal except Allah (SWT):

“Whatsoever is on it (the Earth) will perish. * And the Face of your Lord, full of majesty and Honour, will remain forever”

[Surah Ar- Rahman (55):26-27]

It is better for all of us to ponder deeply about our future and about our eternal life which is everlasting. We are expected to devote some time in this life to ponder what will occur in the life to come.

The Day of Judgment is the day which all creation will meet fully and fairly, the reward for how they conducted themselves in this life. It is a day which is different from all other days. It will come, sooner or later.  But some questions must be raised: Are we fully prepared and aware of this day? What are its signs and horrors? When will it come? What will it look like?

Sheikh Muhammad bin ‘Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy on him, gave a sermon describing the sings horrors of such day.

May Allah (SWT) save us and make us steadfast on the right path until the Day of Judgment. [Ameen]

Ismail Abu’l-Fadl Umar Ibn Kathir was educated chiefly in Damascus. initially specializing in the study of Hadith. He was strongly influenced by the famous theologian Ibn Taymiyyah In middle age Ibn Kathir himself achieved prominence as a highly versatile scholar. He produced a commentary on the Holy Qur an as well as several noteworthy Volumes in the field of Hadlth and jurispudence. But Ibn Kathir who died at Damascus in 774/1373 was also a historian. His treatise of the history of Islam front which this book is in your hands is an excerpt, extends to fourteen volumes in the printed edition. He also wrote al-Bidayah wa’l-nihayah meaning “The Beginning and the End” indicating that the author Chronicles not only the events of the past but also on the authority of the Prophet (S) – those of the Last Days as well.
